Bhaang Machuli Sura Paan Jo Jo Prani Khaaye

It is often quoted by people who do not take Animal meat but take plant food.

The Shalok was used by Kabir:

SGGS Page 1377
Kabeer, Bhaang Maachuli Suraa Paan, Jo Jo Praani Kha-yein
Teerath Barat Neym Kee-ye, te sabhe rasatal jaa-hein

General Interpretations:
In General people interpret it, whosoever consumes marijuana, fish and alcohol, no matter what  pilgrimages, fasts and daily rituals they follow, they shall go to hell.

All "anti bhaang machuli surapaan jathas" use these lines to tell their own followers that they will go to hell if they consume these things which is misguidance about underlying concept.

Veechar

First important thing to consider:
TEERATH(Pilgrimages)...BARAT(Fasts)...NEYM(Daily Rituals) are not Gurmat so above meanings are out of context lead to wrong conclusions. Gurbani never encourage any of above three verbs and call it PAKHAND(ਪਾਖੰਡਿ) and BHARAM (ਭਰਮੁ-Illusion)

It is misinterpretation that these lines are against consumption of animal food as
  • Bhagat Kabir lived his life among the Religious Scholars (Hindu Pandits) and has written various verses in response or in relation to discussion he had with them. This verse by Bhagat Kabir is a satire on the belief of Pandits who say that ਭਾਂਗ ਮਾਛੁਲੀ ਸੁਰਾ lead one's ਤੀਰਥ ਬਰਤ ਨੇਮ to Bhrasht i.e. nullifies them.
  • The satire is on the point that the ਤੀਰਥ ਬਰਤ and ਨੇਮ as outlined by Hindu Pundits are so fragile/weak/impotent, that mere consumption of some items nullifies them.
  • What should instead have happened is that ਤੀਰਥ ਬਰਤ ਨੇਮ should in-fact nullify any wrong doing of a person, be it ਭਾਂਗ ਮਾਛੁਲੀ ਸੁਰਾ or other vices. Gurbani (i.e. the view that Kabir delineates) does not believe in the ਤੀਰਥ(TEERATH) as believed by the Pandit. In Gurmat viewpoint, Teerath is

As following lines, Gurbani also does NOT encourage fasting as it does not encourage any other such rituals.

Guru Gobind Singh ate Mahanparshad in Bilaspur District - Sau Sakhii

The starting lines of this sakhi tells that Guru Gobind Singh ji was meat eater and a great lion hunter.

Note: Sau Sakhi is also praised among Namdharis and is said to be widely quoted. Namdharis also preach against Non Veg food as per lectures of their Satgur Jagjit Singh. This is against the Sikh History.

Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji ate Deer Meat - Sau Sakhi, Bhai Ram Kuer

Sau Sakhi covers the incident of Sri Guru Gobind Singh eating Deer meat at Nanded in Maharashtra. Following is written proof for it:

Sakhi No. 56: Meeting with Banda Bahadur.
Text:

To Note: Namdharis also quote this book called "Sau Sakhi" for proving their existence, but they preach against taking Animal Meat. If they really treat it their own piece of literature then they should either believe in this fact or rewrite Sau Sakhi

Bhagat Sadhna was a Butcher...Bhagat Ravidas and Bhai Gurdas acknowledge him

In Guru Granth Sahib, There is one hymn of Sadhna Butcher who have profession related to Animal meat. Born at Hyderabad and Died at Sirhind he preached Gurmat Philosophy around north India. He was disbeliever of Idol worship, believer of Hukam and was not tangle by this queston whether to animal kill for food or not.

  • Bhagat Ravidas also acknowledge Butcher Sadhana in his hymn, which means Bhagat Ravidas was also not against his Animal Killing for food and he believe that one can attain the supreme even having butcher profession

  • Sadhna was Butcher by profession, as per Vaar of Bhai Gurdas who supported that Bhagat Sadhna got across world ocean by killing animals.

(Vaar 12 Pauri 15 Line 3)
(Vaar 31 Pauri 9 Line 5)

  • Some think that Sadhna left Butcher profession which is not supported by Bhai Gurdas Vaar.
  • Some think Sadhna was guided by Goat, when he was about to cutting its leg, which is not supported by Hymn:
  • Some think Sadhna was believer of Karma philosophy which is again not supported by his hymn, he is questioning Jagat Gura, what is your quality if Karma is not erased :
